Re-roofing
A new roof, one layer at a time
Asphalt shingles, torn off to the deck, rebuilt under written terms.
A re-roof is a few days of loud work after weeks of deciding. My part is to keep the deciding short and the loud part tidy.
Every job starts with the visit and the written page. After you sign, I order materials, pull the permit if your town asks and give you a start day that holds unless the weather says otherwise.
Tear-off to the deck, not over old layers
Deck checked, bad sheets priced per sheet
Ice barrier, underlayment, flashing and vents in the plan

Is it time?
Signs the roof is near the end
- 01
Age
Around 20 years for 3-tab shingles and 25 to 30 for architectural. Past that, I start looking harder.
- 02
Curling or missing shingles
Edges lifting, bare patches, or shingles that crack when I press them.
- 03
Grit in the gutters
Granules from the shingle surface washing down is wear, and it shows.
- 04
Stains and daylight in the attic
Brown rings on the deck, damp insulation, or light coming through.
The job
A re-roof, day by day
Most houses take one to three days. A big, steep or complicated roof takes longer.
- 01
Step 1: Before the crew comes
Move cars out of the driveway, take fragile things off walls and cover what's in the attic. I'll send a reminder with the start day.
- 02
Step 2: Day one: tear-off
Old shingles and underlayment come off in sections we can dry in the same day. Dumpster and tarps go where we agreed.
- 03
Step 3: Deck check
I walk the bare deck with you or by phone. Bad sheets are replaced at the price on the page.
- 04
Step 4: Day two: the new roof
Ice barrier, underlayment, drip edge, flashing, then shingles from the eave up. Vents go in as we go.
- 05
Step 5: Day three: ridge and cleanup
Ridge caps, a last look at every penetration, and a magnet sweep of the yard and driveway.
- 06
Step 6: After
Pawel walks the roof line with you. Your warranty papers follow, with the registration done.
What goes on
Two shingle kinds, and how long each lasts
3-tab
Flat, one layer thick, the lower price. About 15 to 20 years in the Midwest.
Good for a small shed or a short-term house
Shows wear sooner under summer sun
Architectural
Thicker, with a layered look. About 25 to 30 years with good ventilation.
My usual recommendation for a family home
Heavier, so the deck matters more
Want to see it on your roof?
The visit takes about an hour, and the written page comes the next day.
